| Shell Lake Athletic Letter Requirements |
|
Football
|
Playing a substantial amount in one half of the total quarters in a season.
In other words, more than one play per quarter.
1) Finish the season in good standing.
2) Participate in a community service, as directed by the coach.
3) Final decision is at the discretion of the Head Coach. |

Boys Basketball |
1) Participation in at least 16 quarters of varsity games during the season.
2) Finish the season in good standing as defined in the athletic code.
3) Participate in 3 Saturday elementary boys basketball practices.
4) Letter recognition is also left up to the coaches discretion.

Girls Basketball |
1) Participation in at least 16 quarters of varsity games during the season.
2) Finish season in good standing as defined in the athletic code.
3) Participate in 3 Saturday elementary girls basketball practices.
4) Letter recognition is left up to the coaches discretion. |
|
Wrestling |
1) Must participate in one half of the varsity matches, acquire a total of 30 team points or qualify for the sectional championship.
2) Final decision is at the discretion of the head coach. |

Track |
Boys and Girls - Individuals accomplish one of the following:
1) Earn 20 or more points in competition according to point scale.
2) Score points for team at conference, regional, or sectional meets.
3) Set school record, either individual or in a relay.
4) Finish the season in good standing with a positive attitude.
5) Upstanding attendance record as stated by coaches. |

Baseball |
1) Playing in one half of the total innings played in a season of varsity baseball.
2) Final decision is at the discretion of the head coach.
3) Participate in the Youth Baseball Clinic. |
|
Volleyball |
1) Must have played in one half of the varsity games played during the season.
2) Must finish the season in good standing - according to the athletic code.
3) If a senior is asked to play jv, a letter may be earned if the athlete has given all four years of dedication to the sport.
4) Final decision is up to the coach.

|
Cheerleading |
1) Must be a varsity football, wrestling, volleyball, or basketball cheerleading for one season.
2) Wrestling cheerleading: Must attend all major tournaments.
3) Work the shell lake youth open tournament.
4) Minimal excused absences from practice.
5) No athletic code violations,
6) Conduct themselves at all times in a manner that reflects positive on our sport, school and community.
7) Final decision is at coaches discretion.

Cross Country |
1) Attend practices regularly
2) Accumulate no more than one unexcused absence.
3) Accumulate a minimum of 18 letter points from the following criteria:
4) Each varsity meet run equals two letter points.
5) Placing in the top 15 of an invitational meet adds an additional two letter points to the total.
6) Breaking 17 minutes (Girls) or 18 minutes (boys).
7) New personal best (must have one year experience) run adds an additional letter point.
8) Conference medalist equals 2 letter points.
9) Sectional medalist equals 3 letter points.
10) State medalist equals 5 additional letter points.
11) The cross country coach reserves the right to letter any cross country member, regardless of these point totals, if s/he believes that the cross country member is deserving of the recognition (this step may be used in times of illness, injury, etc.).
12) Students must end the season in good standing in order to receive a letter.

Softball |
1) Play in half of the total innings played in a season of varsity softball.
2) Finish the season in good standing.
3) Final decision is at the discretion of head coach.

|
Soccer |
1) A player must play in "half of the halves" with no minimum time for each appearance in varsity matches.
2) In addition, participation from a prior year in varsity matches also qualifies toward earning a varsity letter. |
Requirements for all athletes, including Cheerleading: To receive a letter you must finish the season in good standing, unless the student was injured and had met the requirements set for each sport prior to the injury. All coaches have final decision on their discretion to letter an athlete.
