Philosophy
Participation in an athletic program constitutes an important phase of learning and complements the efforts of the Shell Lake School District in accomplishing this mission. Maximizing a student's potential is enhanced by encouraging participation in programs based on a student's special interests and abilities. Through athletics, a student has the opportunity to improve physical fitness and health awareness, gain self-confidence, develop an ethic of teamwork and cooperation all in an environment of competition. Athletics provide opportunities that are not duplicated in other school activities or in later life and improve the quality of the overall school program for participants. Participation in an athletic program is a privilege. With this privilege a student accepts the responsibility to do his/her best in a sportsmanlike manner and is obliged to abide by the Athletic Code of the Shell Lake School District and the rules, regulations and policies of the School Board and WIAA.
