Student Mentors In Leading Elementary Students
All high school students can apply to be a SMILES member during the school year, a mentoring program at Shell Lake Schools that initiates friendships between younger and older students.
Students in grades 3-6th are eligible to participate in SMILES, however, participation is based on teacher identification and/or recommendation by the school counselor. Mentors and mentees are matched based on interests, needs, and commonalities. SMILES partners typically meet one time a week to talk, play board games, or a physical activity. The elementary students look forward to having their SMILES mentors see them. Also, many of the high school mentors were once SMILES mentees, so they know how important it is to be a mentor and how good it can make a kid feel.
If you have questions about becoming a SMILES mentor, contact the High School Guidance Office for answers and an application.
