Sportsmanship
We here at Shell Lake thank all of you for demonstrating pride in your school by showing responsible sportsmanship behavior by treating opponents as worthy competitors, their fans with courtesy and game officials with respect. Shell Lake's Sportsmanship Guidelines and available below.
Philosophy
Participation in an athletic program constitutes an important phase of learning and complements the efforts of the Shell Lake School District in accomplishing this mission. Maximizing a student's potential is enhanced by encouraging participation in programs based on a student's special interests and abilities. Through athletics, a student has the opportunity to improve physical fitness and health awareness, gain self-confidence, develop an ethic of teamwork and cooperation all in an environment of competition. Athletics provide opportunities that are not duplicated in other school activities or in later life and improve the quality of the overall school program for participants. Participation in an athletic program is a privilege. With this privilege a student accepts the responsibility to do his/her best in a sportsmanlike manner and is obliged to abide by the Athletic Code of the Shell Lake School District and the rules, regulations and policies of the School Board and WIAA.
Athletic Fees
All students participating in middle school & high school extra-curricular activities (cross country, football, volleyball, boys and girls basketball, wrestling, baseball, softball, track, ect.) must pay a $45.00 fee per activity, with a maximum of $90.00 per year per participant and a family cap of $180.00 per year. Fees must be paid to the District Office prior to the first practice. Families who qualify for free and reduced meals and have a current application on file are exempt.
Impact Testing
Every student/athlete in grades 6-12 will need to take the Baseline Concussion Test prior to participating in any practices. This test needs to be completed every other year. Parents can find their players IMPACT test date(s) in the family's Activity Registration account under 'Important Dates'. Please contact Nurse Thompson at thompson@shelllake.k12.wi.us if you think your student needs it done. Otherwise, once a roster is established, Nurse Thompson will contact families of those students to set up a time to complete the testing.
