- Fever over 100.4
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Severe Cough
- Overall not feeling well enough to be in school (combination of symptoms of nasal congestion, cough, sore throat, fatigue, headache, etc.)
- Shell Lake School District will not be required to perform contact tracing for Covid-19 but will work with our local health departments. Parents of elementary students will get an email notification if there has been a positive case of Covid-19 within their student's classroom.
- There will be no quarantines of any asymptomatic students/staff regardless of where they may have been exposed to Covid-19.
- If a student or staff member is symptomatic and experiencing the above symptoms, or feeling too ill to be in school, they will be sent home. They can return to school when 24 hours fever free without use of medication, 24 hours symptom free when vomiting or diarrhea, or their symptoms are resolving. A negative Covid-19 test is recommended but not required.
- If a student or staff member does test positive for Covid-19, they will follow the guidance of staying home for 5 days from symptom onset and return to school with a mask for the following 5 days if no symptoms.
- If a student or staff member has an alternate diagnosis, they will follow the guidance of the doctor and the Wisconsin Communicable Disease Chart for returning to school as like any other year.
These guidelines are adopted from the DPI Covid-19 Infection Control and Mitigation Measures for Wisconsin Schools 2022/2023

What You Can Do To Reduce The Spread of Germs and Our Cleaning Measures
Shell Lake School has a routine cleaning regimen in place to help reduce the spread of germs and communicable disease. In addition to our regular cleaning and disinfection, we are increasing the cleaning of high-touch areas and hard and soft surface items throughout the day. We will follow all guidelines of the CDC and our local and state health departments.
We all play a role in helping reduce the spread of communicable disease. We are asking our students, staff and families to practice regular preventive actions (see flyer in English, Spanish) including:
- Wash your hands regularly, for 20 seconds, using soap and hot water. Make sure to wash your fingertips. This is especially important after using the restroom, coughing or sneezing into your hands, and before preparing or consuming food.
- Avoid coughing or sneezing into your hands or in the air. Always try to cough or sneeze into a tissue, and then throw the tissue away. If you don’t have a tissue, cough/sneeze into your arm.
- As much as you can, avoid touching your eyes, mouth and nose.
- If children are feeling sick, please keep them home from school. Families should have a plan in place for keeping your child home, picking up your child if they are sent home sick, and if schools are closed.
